My Approach

I believe our bodies carry the burden of our unresolved emotional energy starting at birth and that we can also inherit the trauma of our ancestors. I developed my practice to help clients resolve this unwanted energy and heal in a way that they’ve dreamt is possible, but haven’t quite achieved.  My sessions include education about the body and mind and draw on a combination of the following modalities.

The 20 Concepts

knowing-how-twenty-concepts-book

The “20 Concepts” approach was developed by Julie Valenti to help treat those who struggle with PTSD that was caused by childhood trauma. A working knowledge of these concepts will help you

  • Better understand the anatomy and physiology of the brain and body

  • Learn how neurological and hormonal systems (e.g., feelings) interplay

  • Understand PTSD as it relates to trauma and childhood attachment conflicts

  • Identify triggers and learn effective anchors, thereby ending regressive behaviors

  • Learn how to use intelligent and natural communication when conflicts arise

  • Develop a more integrated viewpoint of situations and parts of oneself

Not only are these valuable concepts that you will learn during our individual sessions but I also offer a quarterly study of Julie’s book “Knowing How: 20 Concepts to Rewire the Brain”. To purchase a copy  click here.

Trauma Model Therapy

trauma-model-book

Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) is based on Dr. Ross’ Trauma Model, which is a detailed, scientifically testable model of the relationship between psychological trauma and a wide range of mental disorders and addictions. TMT was designed for clients who’ve experienced varying degrees of childhood trauma but can be readily adapted for individuals with even mild trauma and mental health problems. The treatment blends cognitive, systems, experiential and psychodynamic work. The core elements of TMT are

  • the problem of attachment to the perpetrator

  • the locus of control shift

  • the problem is not the problem

  • just say ‘no’ to drugs;

  • addiction is the opposite of desensitization

  • the victim-rescuer-perpetrator triangle

CRM

comprehensive-resource-model-crm-book

Using the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) I guide my clients to access resources embedded within the body, mind and spirit that help them process traumatic experiences. When we can safely confront our most painful memories and fully step into the healing process, our defense responses (symptoms, addictions, etc…) are no longer needed. Our nervous system doesn’t have to fight, hide or bury the events that have compromised how we relate to ourselves, others, and life events.

CRM clears out the sludge and debris that keeps us from remembering who we really are, the us that is not defined from our pain and history.

Meditation

Meditation is a mind and body practice that has a long history of use for increasing calmness and physical relaxation, improving psychological balance, coping with illness, and enhancing overall health and well-being. Mind and body practices focus on the interactions among the brain, mind, body, and behavior. I provide guided meditation here in my practice, ranging from 10-25 minutes of an individual’s session. It just depends on need and preference.

Mental Field Therapy Tapping

Mental field therapy tapping provides rapid relief from emotional distress. Like acupuncture (without the needles) it stimulates the body’s energy meridians to resolve imbalances in the body’s emotional control system. The patient taps on various parts of the body with their fingers. The map of the tapping points can be found on the client resources page.
